As the holiday season rolls closer I started thinking about time away at the beach. I then remembered we finished work early this year on the remodel of a 1960's Burleigh Heads beach apartment for a client. This image was a starting point for my client as it addressed a very ugly entrance to the apartment. This was the solution we finally used to resolve looking straight in the front door to a ugly 1970 bar area and straight into the living space. Privacy and storage was a huge problem. There was no "drop off" point when you arrived to put down a phone, keys or a bag let alone loads of beach gear and towels when you arrived back from the beach. We ripped out the dated 1970's bar and erected a new wall to block looking straight into the living space. The new dividing wall gave us the opportunity to then add casual storage, a bench seat to take off sandy shoes and place then in basket, a wet towel drop zone, (or should I say hanging zone). We added a industrial beach style light on a side wall, some art work, dark metal coat hooks for hats, bags and towels, a few baskets for shoe storage all on new VJ panel walls to soften and casualise the whole look.
